Should i use a digital camera or a webcam for lego movies?February 23, 2006 at 3:07 am #166594
What camera do you have? If you are going to buy one, what can you afford? Short answer: Digital will give better quality, webcam is easier to use. But a lot depends on which model you get.
Hmm, I wonder if this has been asked before? Let’s go to the top of this page and see what happen if I enter “camera” in the search… Wow! look at those results! Maybe this has been discussed before? It has! Here, and here and here and here. Are we seeing a pattern here? And looky, here’s another one.
I know I sound terribly sarcastic or rude, but I’m just pointing out that some information is easily available without starting a new thread. I didn’t even bother pointing out the FAQ, and Resources, also available at the top of this page.February 23, 2006 at 12:44 pm #166631

Sean, I apologise. You asked a perfectly legitamate question and I snapped at you.
Hopefully you were able to get some beneficial information out of the links I provided, even if I did not phrase my response very well.
The short answer I provided gives you some very basic info regarding your question. As a general rule, a Digital camera will give you a better quality image. The drawback being that you need to touch the camera to get the data out (via the memory card or transfer to your computer) or to change the batteries if you are not using external power.
On the other hand, a webcam will be easier to use as it just plugs into the usb port and *most* of the stop-motion software recommended on this site will work with most webcams. But you need to be careful when selecting your model. It needs to have manual focus (very important, but not always mentioned on the pack) and have the highest resolution you can afford.
Stay away from cameras that say “interpolated” as they are not as good. Someone else will be able to better explain why as I am not sure of the technicalities of it.
Any other questions, feel free to ask or PM me (just click on the little blue ‘PM’ button under somebody’s post to send them a message, a little like e-mail. Felt I should mention that, just in case. :wink ).February 23, 2006 at 7:47 pm #166679

What’s a webcame?February 23, 2006 at 8:28 pm #166687
Use a QuickCam 4000 if you want to use a Webcamera. Or if you want to use a Digi Camera get one about 1.3 megapixel with a Focus Ring.
