What (free) program should I use in conjunction with a webcam to make stop motion films?
Also, what would be a good, yet inexpensive webcam to use?

Stop Motion Animator and Monkeyjam are two of the most popular. As for a webcam, a quickam pro 9000 is about the best one you are going to find. It’s been recently lowered from $100 to $69.99 on Amazon.com.

Where do I get SMA? None of the links work. 🙁

Free programs for stop motion always have their pitfalls. I used a few for along time before I gave up and paid 80 bucks for a decent program. It’s up to you though. :shake

The best programs are on Linux.

You could start with Blender because it’s cross-platform,
it has video-capabilities and you can always learn the other stuff later. Blender is mainly for 3d.
For an idea about what it can do:

Here is a nice list of video editors.
    IMPORTANT, most are on Linux.

Linux is NOT a windows program, it is an Operating System.
Just as Windows XP, Vista, Mac OS X 10.5 is.

    Most Linux are Free, 0$.
And involve burning a .iso file to a cd or dvd.
And then rebooting the computer with the cd or dvd in.
Then running the installer or just use the live cd/dvd to see if it fits your needs/all hardware works properly/….
