  • Damn, I kept putting off voting. Any chance we could see the breakdown?

At any rate, congratulations to everyone -I’m sure it was a close call in any case!

  • Amazing again, Smeagol.

Ever since the Franky Job came out, I’ve been waiting for someone else to take a serious jab at this genre. You haven’t disappointed.

Visually, the film is brilliant. The attention to detail pays off time and time again.

I’m still not sure I completely like the story. It was reasonably well told, but it just…[Read more]

  • This is great. I showed up just as the forums were switching over and ended up wondering why nobody was replying to my posts.

Reflecting on the site, it really was and still is something that can only exist on the internet. I’ve become pretty attached to this community. It has given me an opportunity to branch out, converse and work with all…[Read more]

  • Great job Smeagol. The concept was brilliant and you pulled it off nicely, although the quality of the CGI was not on the same level as I see in many commercials. That said, it looked great and was memorable and humorous enough that I can truly see you making the top 10 or even winning!

I am sure you have just been busy, but I’d like to note that this ad is still in the rotation.

  • Tim, scholarships are not all based solely on marks. From my experience, many give preferential treatment to ethnic minorities or women. If you’re going to into engineering, you might find some schools offer engineering-specific scholarships. Apply to as many as you can. Even small ones are much more effective than working (not that I’m…[Read more]

  • Nice technically and I hope you win!

However, it was a little flat. The joke was disappointing and the whole commercial seemed drawn out. If you haven’t already submitted it, you might do well to cut some of the “boring” time. Commercials are short, snappy and concise. In keeping with the latter, the “real” footage at the end and the unoriginal…[Read more]

  • Wow. The trailer gave me goosebumps. Congratulations, I am truly awed.

The art is great. The trailer itself gives very little insight into the story, but I’m eager to see the completed film. If the story proves to be tired, the acting terrible and the directing awful, the art will still probably make it worthwhile. That said, your past work…[Read more]

I hadn’t really thought of blood donations.

I’ve heard rumors that Obama has plans to implement a system whereby university students (or university bound high school students) could volunteer for non-profit organizations and receive government grants. I have no idea how successful it would be in the States or in Canada but I do know it sounds…[Read more]

  • I grinds my gears when people wear shirts proclaiming their love for other bands when they go to concerts. It’s like going to a sports game and wearing the sweater of a team that isn’t even playing.

  • Good luck indeed. The site seems to be running fine and I have no reason to think it shouldn’t be!

I came to this site just as Jason was selling the site to RevMen. It’s great to look back at how much the site has expanded since then. Brickfilms has been on TV multiple times and the site itself is growing in content and functionality. There…[Read more]

  • Christian Bale’s transformations are pretty amazing, no doubt.

A lot of people can act, and I am of the opinion that movie stars are grossly overpaid. That said, acting is harder than many people make it out to be. I cannot act very convincingly at all, even when playing myself. I tend to appreciate those relatively competent professional…[Read more]

  • Considerations should also be made for the reliability of the files for the featured films. I agree with pretty much all the suggestions thus far, but I would narrow the picks down based on which ones are not likely to run into bandwidth trouble. Brickfilms’ server will be taking a beating, so I would imagine films hosted on sites like…[Read more]

  • The “new” one was certainly my favorite. Both were reasonably well done technically, and I smiled at the sheer randomness of each of them, though the “new” one in particular. It’s difficult to make suggestions for improvement though, as you’ve claimed you were very rushed.

  • “Dew” wrote: Visually yes, a lot of them were impressive. But I found that some IDEA films could use a bit more development in the story department. That’s another ball of wax for another topic and another time though.

I totally agree, although I think some of the films had potential in that regard. Not all the stories were poor, they just…[Read more]

My first impression was: shortcuts. The repeated footage and frequent stills are lazy. I recognize that this was produced in two days, but why not spend a little more time?

This is not to say the film was terrible, as it was certainly not. The story was nothing special, but the voice acting was reasonable (given that all the characters sounded…[Read more]

  • The film looked very good, but I would be eager to see a higher quality version. Lighting and animation were the high points for sure, but everything turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

  • [spoiler]I really enjoyed the narration and style of this one. The filming and cinematography was generally well done, and I especially noticed the scene where the roof opened for its visual appeal. Animation, picture quality, and sheer visual grandeur were not up to par with some of the other entries, but were still more than satisfactory. The…[Read more]
