  • Congratulations to all!

I wasn’t expecting my film to be high on the list, but I gained more from the experience in that 24 hours than I did for the last 4-6 months before the contest. Its amazing what time pressure can do…

That was actually really good. Although I was expecting more use of the portal gun and making portals, but I guess it is a little harder to do those special effects.

I love the game (I’ve beat the game 3 times and made about 6 of my own levels). The references to the game in the movie were definitely well placed. I particularly liked the…[Read more]

Oh, that just made me think of something. In After Effects, there’s a filter called “Lens Compensation”. You should be able to…[Read more]

  • I’ve tried this type of shot before and it really isn’t that difficult as long as you have some basic video editing software.

What you need to do, is shoot the foreground separate from the background. This is especially easy if the foreground and background images have no animation in them. Take a picture of the foreground image (the…[Read more]

  • I have the more evil version of the sound you need. I could upload it for you if you want. I used it in Mission Space (the first one). The sound occurs at 2:05

Or as I like to do when cutting scenes is impractical (like if somebody is in…[Read more]

  • Don’t use the default titles and transitions that come with imovie and windows movie maker. Its really obvious, its really annoying, and it makes you look like a noob. Tweek things up a bit. Change a color, change a font, change a background. It doesn’t matter, but if I can immediately tell what program you used just by looking at it… do…[Read more]

  • I can’t wait to see how you connect the storylines between this and your other preveiw

  • That was very cool, especially for a 24 hour time limit. Wasn’t as weird as thought it would be. Btw, It always takes me a really long time to render things in 3D on my computer, I would never feel comfortable doing that for THAC, but you pulled it off, nice.

Not this year! I checked the rules and the pieces are physically touching. What the rules were talking about is that they don’t want people…[Read more]

  • Well I can assure you that the script was started before I made “Writer’s Block” but it was too long for the amount of time we had left for my school project. It was originally called ‘Adventure Quest’ but it turns out that that was the name of an online game or something and so we changed the title. It’s a completely different theme than your film too.

  • I got my AE 6.5 a while ago on eBay for around 95$ including shipping. That was the cheapest one I could find.

And seriously, its worth it. :)

  • I don’t think that enough people have the motivation, time, and skill to pull off a 45 minute Brickfilm. In SWTGD, although it was a very good film, had rather rushed and jerky animation in some places while other scenes had smooth and heavily animated shots. And if I’m not mistaken, I think there were 4 people working on the film?

    I think a…[Read more]

  • Whenever I’m doing masking, I always try to physically move the object around as I capture the image. That way, with frame averaging, the 6 or so samples of the picture all blur together and make the object appear to have a motion blur. And its just as easy to do the masking as if you filmed it normally.

  • Blender is the only really good FREE 3d program. But its very confusing to use. To be good at it, it will take a lot of tutorials and playing around to get the hang of it. But I have seen some very good results from it.

But if you’re willing to pay money, I would suggest getting 3ds Max or Maya because they are really easy to use. They’re…[Read more]

  • Maybe we shouldn’t accept new films into the directory for a while until the whole rating thing clears up. It might be very unfair to some people whose films have been added after the new ratings system took place. And I still think that quantity is a very pointless category and should be discarded or merged with the description of quality. I…[Read more]
