Ok guys, I just had a brand new laptop some weeks ago.
I’ve paid for it 1500€, incl. the suitcase and the extended guarantee.
It’s a HP 5200 serie, w/ PIV 2,4 GHz, 256 RAM, 40 HDD, ATI Radeon card, USB 1.1, Firewire, 15′ screen…
It was a special discount in one of the biggest French store. Indeed, laptop are more expensive than desktop. But when it comes to brickfilming, a laptop changed my life (my shooting place is not at the same place as my studio), making it far more easy to achieve.
I’m very happy with my laptop for the moment.
Yolego, I think you can have a killer computer w/ $1500, better than mine because electronics are WAY cheaper in the US than in Europe.
As said Bluntman, RAM and HDD are indispensable when it comes to filming, not only CGI but also post-prod (very CPU hungry) and even editing. And yes, 60GB are ultra common here in Europe, though they tend to be replaced by 80 or 120 GB nowadays.May 2, 2003 at 8:53 am #2070
Kapaluchi, please stop it. You have no idea what you’re talking about. We’ve had enough trolls in our forums; we don’t need another one.
EDIT: Also, Yolego, I would suggest you get a Vaio instead of a Dell. Dell’s are the best for consumer desktops (though they’re still not as good as a custom made rig), but unless you’re mainly interested in the great warranty, Vaio’s are much better laptops. But if I couldn’t convince you with the Pentium/Athlon discussion, I doubt I will now…
Cometgreen, who has both a desktop and a laptop 😛May 2, 2003 at 1:03 pm #2077
Okay. I want this discussion about my laptop to end right now. Lets go back on topic people. I really don’t care about your opinion. If I did, I would have asked. 😛
And thanks for saving me the trouble of typing up a big long arguement, Bluntman. I appreciate it. 😉May 2, 2003 at 6:49 pm #2085
60 gigabytes is small
I have uhhh…. 6 gigs…. lolMay 2, 2003 at 7:05 pm #2091
– it’s a laptop Yolego is after, silly boy, not a desktop, THAT’S why it seems more expencive than your “less than $1200” system, try reading the posts.
Holy Blunt, I’ve read the post, but even $1500 to much for a laptop.
60 gigs, 80 gigs or 6 gigs.
Capacity is not everything. A fast Hd with enough cache thats the thing.
Todays standart in Europe is something as a 80gigs @ 5600prm so this means a waste of your money.
Custom build systems without Os are the best.
But that’s for desktop.
Well Laptops have today a standard 60 gig at 5600 so again a waste of you money.May 2, 2003 at 7:28 pm #2095

So, let’s get back on topic. Of course, there’s not much else to be said.
Cometgreen, who thinks $1500 is not too expensive, and wonders how Patryk knows the HDD is 5400RPM…*now stops discussion* 😉May 2, 2003 at 11:02 pm #2106
Ok thanks for the help guys. Once I get a few bucks and get a new camera I find out if I have to get a few more bucks for another computer hehe.May 3, 2003 at 1:06 am #2115
Patryk, it would be nice if you wouldn’t just understand the english you WANTED to understand. *Shakes head*
I SAID: Discussion Closed. Leave me alone about my laptop.May 3, 2003 at 11:20 am #2137
and wonders how Patryk knows the HDD is 5400RPM
So what’s the point of this.May 13, 2003 at 12:51 am #2756
