Good point Buxton. Last year’s Brick Fest entry form had editable (with acrobat) fields. But the BricksWest form earlier this year was not editable. I’d like to see the forms editable. On ANOTHER note: Who’s planning on entering a video clip? There are heaps of animators around here now, and there is NOTHING better than a little competition (and a screening in front of a live audience) to bring the best out of us all. hali |

I was planning on doing a small Monty Python song a few weeks ago, but didn’t have enough time. I may rethink it and do it over the summer and enter it into Bricksfest. Cometgreen |

I’m going to enter, and I’ve chosen the song I shall use, though I will not reveal it. I think we should avoid telling what songs we’re going to use, as that may cause us to influence one another and take away some of our creativity or resourcefulness. |

Yep, I’m entering. I needed a big stress release this weekend and I have filmed and edited 2:45 of a 3:20-ish song. Weird thing is, it hit me that I’ve done HEAPS of work more than a month before it is due. For me this is good and bad. Good because it means no last minute stress… bad because it means I will tinker and change and cut etc etc… Sometimes I find things are better when I just have to accept a final version. Good thing is I’ve picked one of my fave songs ever, and as yet I’m not sick of hearing it… yet. As for length. The actual song is over five minutes in length. I think the most time has been spent cutting the song down so it fits under 4 minutes and so that the cuts do not interfere with the timing or rhythm of the song. I have done HEAPS of counting beats and making sure the cuts are logical and remove the correct number of bars etc so that the song continues in a musically-logical manner. Already this comp has been more fun than I expected. I was initially least happy with the music vid selection, but I guess that was because it was a type of film I do not make for fun. It has been a positive learning experience thus far. I just hope there are heaps of entries! Hali |

If you have the “Free” version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, you will be able to enter in data in the fields on the form. You can then print the form after you have completed it. You then send the completed form to the competition address with your entry or entries. If you have the next level of Adobe Acrobat, a paid-for version, you will be able to save the form with all of the data in the form. This level of Adobe Acrobat is the Signature version and allows you to send the form digitally to others with a signature on it and the data filled in. The next level of Adobe Acrobat is the full version and that version will allow you to make your own forms. Different security settings will allow the creator of the form to prevent the user from doing certain things to the form. These include adding information, adding fields, saving the form, and printing the form. Let me assure you that the entry form security settings will be set at a level appropriate for you to enter data, save the form, and print the form. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is the only version of this software that you will need to enter information into the fields. Alternatively, the fields will be left blank and you may fill in the fields by hand. I will be certain to leave “prompting data” out of the fields so that if you chose to print a “blank” entry form, you may do so. Todd |

I have several questions regarding the submission by international contestants. The first is about the Customs. They thoroughly examine any package entering or leaving the country. This examination includes X-rays, which means that magnetic tape can be severely damaged. For example, a video ordered by a teacher of mine, which was sent from the states, looked like a VHS you rent that’s been in the rental for 10 years. The second is about the above mail. Don’t you think it’s a bit unfair to have someone, who kindly provides this service to the community without asking anything in return, put every video on a new tape, thus increasing material and postage cost? I think it would be more fair to consider entries on one tape, that have entry forms with different names and addresses, as different, equal entries, rather than privileging the one that happens to be the first. Stefan. |

dear Todd, wouldn’t it be possible to accept NTSC-Video (or SVIDEO) CDs? They should be playable in a standard DVD-player (not nuch a difference in setup to VHS) but this format would be avaiable to anyone with a CDburner (even if he lives in good ol’ PAL country This would be the format I would pretty much prefer to enter. brickbrock |
