Hello there! Thanks everyone for checking out the chat yesterday. The problem is, unsurprisingly, Micro$oft. They decided not to support new Java versions, and consequently the Java Virtual Machine (the part of your browser that runs Java applets) only supports version 1.1, whereas my applet used 1.4. There are 2 workarounds. One of them is easy for me, the other is easy for you. I would like to ask you to test them. Try solution 1 first, then proceed to solution 2. If possible, test both of them. Solution 1 http://www.stack.nl/~stefanvz/phpBB2/bfchat/bfchat11.html Solution 2 http://www.stack.nl/~stefanvz/phpBB2/bfchat/bfchat.html To remind you, this is what the chat looks like on my system: http://www.stack.nl/~stefanvz/chatview.gif Yours still on the job, Stefan. |

Solution 1 was the same as yesterday, just a big empty grey box with a message about a class that can’t be loaded as I pass my mouse over. Solution 2 had me download and install Java, and then I could see everything just fine. |

Solution 1 is not a solution, as it still won’t work with the classical VM (correct me if I’m wrong). Here’s a working version of Solution 1: Drawbacks: Let me know what you think! Stefan. P.S. RevMen, could you please run ‘java -version’ on your server? The program on that side has less rigorous requirements (in fact, apart from the database stuff, it should run on 1.0), but I’d like to know what I’m up against. |

Same here (solution 2), but upon launching the second time, it started up immediately. |

Well, crap, I had a message typed up here, but then the damn thing messed up, so I’ll just say that a ten meg dl sucks for modem users and I doubt anybody would do it. Yolegoman |

I agree, but consider that it’s only once. After this download, you’ll be able to use the brickfilms chat forever! Or at least, until you re-install your computer. I’ll run a poll on this. You can download it even now, if you like: you won’t have to do it again when the chat is done. Stefan. |

Well, I had installed the latest Java applet yesterday, so today both of those options work for me. It looks great! Cometgreen |
