No, divx is not Realmedia.

3 MB/min means that your file size can be no more than 3 MB for each minute of film. So if you have a film that’s 8 minutes in length, your file size must be no larger than 24 MB.

You are allowed and encouraged to submit your entry in additional formats. Requiring the 3MB/min Realmedia file just makes sure there is at least 1 version available that can be downloaded by anyone and viewed by anyone.

yeh I am definately entering this contest.Ive got so many ideas….. I take it we’re only aloud to submit 1 film :wink Do we have to focuse it on just a hero or just a villain or can they share an equal part in the film

This is my general “w00t, good theme, I’m going to enter this. etc.” post, but I’ll pitch in to the “prevent obvious questions” movement. READ REV’S POST before asking a question. If it’s not there, read 3 pages of posts, it’s not as many as you might think.

This has already been mentioned in the previous pages. Rev said you can have both, but must focus on one or the other. Plus there’s a prize to the best Hero and/or best Villain! As to multiple entries, I don’t know, but it has been allowed in previous contests…

Excellent theme, excellent prizes… I don’t think I’d change anything about this one.

Yes, multiple entries are allowed, as well as cooperative efforts by multiple directors.

I don’t know about the tracks on Archive.org. I’m not sure that their license agreement would allow you to submit your film on a for-profit DVD. But I could be wrong.

Badabababa…I’m lovin’ this contest! Since I’ve got no ideas…I think I’ll open a thread called “GOod idaes 4 hav conetst!!!!1!1″ No, I have an idea. A good idea, as a matter of fact. And Rev, I won’t make the same mistake as HAT…(using Brian Setzer…not a good idea for a contest with a copyright rule.)

The film remains hidden from the judges until the deadline as well. Before the deadline, you must upload your film somewhere and provide me with a link to it. Only I will see all of the films before the deadline. If needed, I can provide you with server space to upload. For contests I always put all of the films on the brickfilms server.

Rev, after looking this over a couple of times, I’ve got to ask: huh?

Every good film must have both a hero and a villan (that makes for conflict). This contest really wide open. Thats a good thing because you’ll get a lot of entries, but a bad thing because it’s not going to have a well defined feel (like WoW or APE).

Are there any limitations here, or is this really as wide open as I am interpreting it? (or are you encouraging a thousand “SPID3RMAN LOOK NO COPYRIGHT!!!11!” films).

I’m sure you’ll answer this question in the official contest page.

EDIT: OK, I see what you’re doing now. That works.

It’s entirely possible to make a good film without heroism and/or villainy. It’s also possible to make a good film with subtle amounts of heroism and/or villainy. The point of this contest is to make films that single one of those characteristics out and focus on it. Your story should be designed to display those particular characteristics.

Yes, it is fairly wide open, but not as wide open as it first seems, and certainly not as wide open as HAT.

I’m hoping the dual nature of the contest will provide us with an interesting mixture of films. I envision the DVD set containing a heroes disc and a villains disc, or something to that effect.

I’d say it’s as well, if not better, defined as APE, thepotoo. Your story must completely revolve around either a Villain, OR a Hero. That’s one very specific character type. APE could be anything, anywhere, as long as it was “weird”.
edit: Rev posted before me; according to him it—well, read the post. :)

Nice contest, Josh. I think I have an idea already…

Only hint: I’m feeling a bit… shall we say, evil?

Oh, very nice prizes, by the way. I’d much rather have a Bricklink shopping spree than one small set.

I know the contest is supposed to focus on villainy or a hero, but what if the villian starts off as a villian, then does a heroic act to stop a bigger more powerful villain, then goes back to being a villian?

-Jedi, already has a good idea for the contest…

Well you really have to focus on the theme in an entry since it is part of the judging system. So not any film that features a good or a bad character can win.

No way; that would kill the DVD concept. :P

I envision the DVD set containing a heroes disc and a villains disc, or something to that effect.
