Do you have any plans of what you will do if you actually win?

What is your stance on the recent LDF discussion on whether or not we should keep it open to the public or lock it?

This is a very unlikely scenario, but I would make an effort to come down hard on spam and unfriendly posts, respecting the good ol’ rules of Jason when this forum was first created. I feel there’s too much spam in the forums (as in, not ‘Community’ and the LDF) and what would have been locked on sight two years ago is not being locked. There are too many threads plagued with image macros and too many unnecessary posts. I find it sometimes very hard to wade through all of the spam just to find one, decent post.

Some new members are getting the wrong impression and at this current state, many new members aren’t realising the etiquette and what not of the forums until much later. There should be more ‘pointing to the FAQ’ and less sarcastic advice that sometimes confuses newbies.

I think it’s doing more harm to the community than good. While the discussion is healthy, people have carried their not so nice posts out of the LDF.

However, this is mostly due to the unfriendly posts being tolerated outside of the LDF, which *if* I get elected, I will come down hard on.

As in, I’d delete them or lock threads before they get out of hand. :| Which doesn’t happen very much at the moment. Yeah.

Like seriously, if you want me to point out to you all of the spam that should be locked, give me five minutes and I’ll find you ten threads.

Go ahead.

It would also help if you could point to the not-so-nice posts you believe people have carried out of the LDF.

EDIT (sorry): And how are we to be assured that you would lock these discussions in a timely manner? How often are you able to visit the forums? Though you’re a golden-oldy, I don’t recall you being very active recently. That, or I happen to read all the threads that you don’t post in. ;)

You’re seriously not taking me seriously, are you not? I wasn’t being that serious. :|

Okay, well, here we go, posts from the last month that have gone out of hand and should have been locked from the get go:

http://www.brickfilms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17008
If it were a while back, would have been locked with a note about something like: PM the people that are doing the voice acting.

http://www.brickfilms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17076
(Understandable, as nobody replied), would have been locked with a ‘don’t promote your films, hyping is unnecessary’ or at least a warning or something :|

http://www.brickfilms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16749
Four years ago, my brother posting that amount of emoticons got this IP address banned. :P

http://www.brickfilms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16757
Like this would have been locked with a simple thread reply instead of letting a lot of people post exactly the same thing two years ago :|

I know that didn’t prove much, but I would have done something about those threads. And I am the type that lurks every day, but has nothing to add basically. :|

But for the LDF discussion pouring onto the other forums, it’s very subtle, but people are less nice since two years ago. It’s not as if there’s an insta-flamewar starting everywhere, but the general helpfulness has dropped by a small level here.

Let’s take for instance, a few stupid suggestions in the Site Feedback forum, and how people would react then, and how they would now.

Let’s take Aled’s suggestion from a few weeks ago:
http://www.brickfilms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16900

While the posts don’t seem to nice or too harsh either way, you can kind of see the general negativity in the posts, into comparison with say:

http://www.brickfilms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=28880
This, I made a stupid suggestion (or at least not a good suggestion coming from me), and those posts made me so embarrassed to the point where I edited my posts to hide my shame. (four odd years ago)

But you get this all the time now! Even though there’s not much difference, THESE TYPES OF POSTS ARE NOW NORMAL PEOPLE!!!! THE POSTS THAT WERE ONCE CONSIDERED SO OFFENSIVE AND SHAMEFUL TO ME FOR BRICKFILMS ARE JUST COMMONPLACE NOW! THIS IS MADNESS! WHY DO YOU KEEP ON LETTING THIS HAPPEN TO YOU, BRICKFILMS?

Um… okay… I honestly have no idea what kind of point I’m trying to make here, but…

OH YEAH AND EVERY DAY IS NAME CHANGE DAY

I just lost all of my support in that one sentence. :|

If you’re willing to send a cruise missile to the servers and end this insanity, you would have my vote!

But that took longer than 5 minutes. :shake

Cometgreen, who will reply when he’s a little more conscious

(edit: right, 5 minutes, not 10)

-I will introduce forum pruning that will delete day-old topics (who needs old posts anyway? need to keep old reviews for films? tough!1)
-I will demod: Cometgreen, RevMen, jay, mrgraff and Stefan (who needs them anyway? We have plenty already!)
-I will put in childish and amusing word filters for general hilarity (for example, replace the letter ‘e’ with ‘phlegm’)
-I will introduce a spam forum (THAT SURELY WON’T DRIVE THE SENIOR MEMBERS AWAY!)
-I will delete my old, embarrasing posts (SO YOU CAN’T BLACKMAIL ME)
-Cometgreen will be banned
-Brianfast will be banned
-Upgrade to PHPBB3 (that will surely get Aled’s vote)
-I will make COTY posts (that will surely get 10% of the community’s vote)
-I will allow a new Tie Army thread (dogscarletnyc’s vote)
-Delete cosbiette and expose RevMen
-Ban and delete people who don’t detect sarcasm
-Put in inappropriate 6000kb emoticons

So who approves? :D
