I like Josh’s idea of a “3rd party” jury, independant of brickfilmers or including brickfilmers that didn’t release movies the latest year.
Why not include Karin Wien, Jason Rowoldt, Seth Rothkin, Thomas Foote, Esmeralda, Jay Silver, Nate “Bluntman” Burr, etc ?

There should be nominations, and the award could be “broadcast” on the chat, like we did for the previous contests…

An event like this gives the unique opportunity to award movies that were particularly good but not highlighted by a brickfilms contest.

Some questions to end :

- Could be nominated movies that were done for a contest ? (my answer would be yes).
- How many members for the jury ? (i think 8 is nice)
- Shall we wear all tuxedos ? (sure we shall)
- Is the president of the USA choosing the winners in secret ?
- What is the best date ? (in order to have max people in the chat)
- How many movies can be nominated in each category ? (6 no ?)
- How many categories ? (see CG’s thread)
- Can a movie be nominated in several categories ? (to me, yes)
- Are there minimum requirements ? (like length, story or else, I know it’s a weird question…)
- Can Fart Competition be presented out of the contest ?
- Is the award virtual or shall we hire a foundry to create the trophies ?
- Could some countries be boycotted like Iraq, France, Germany, Canada or else ?
- Could we pay in order to illegally have an award ? Could we use Paypal ? :wink
- Are we allowed to sleep with actresses in order to increase our chances ? Or producers at least ?

to answer those questions Loweek we would have to have a jury or group of people who make all the decissions, make the rules, nominate the movies, organise the awards, organise the ceremonies, ect. I like what you said about having Karin Wien, Jason Rowoldt, Seth Rothkin, Thomas Foote, Esmeralda, Jay Silver, Nate “Bluntman” Burr as the group of people who make the decissions, because they all have huge resources in this hobby, but they have to want to do this, because it seems like alot of work and they may not have the time.

Maybe the best would be a jury of non-brickfilmers,
who don’t know anybody.
That it would be detached.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the 2002 Plast Awards- maybe not a perfect example, but a precedent none the less.

I think its a great idea but you have to be careful about who is on the “committee”, if that person created a movie during the year – a good possibility since the people are chosen for their influence/activity – then they would find it difficult to be objective.

This kind of stuff is tricky – As Josh said, it should be independent of Brickfilms, so what do you do..invite a couple of key people from the top 3 film sites to be on the panel? Then what if your the admin of the 4′th site, wouldn’t you be unhappy about not being represented?

Are you thinking of the panel judging the winners or some kind of “peoples choice” award kind of thing?

Motfilms did. :)
Or for a fun thing, the winners could be contacted beforehand, and animate their character’s award speech.Heh. :)

Oops! I read that post too!
All I could find were these links in the old forum (‘ware the pop-ups!)

As I remember it, it was disappointing because it wasn’t announced who all entered, who was nominated for what, or how the winners were chosen.
The best part about it was the sponsorship by Best-Lock.
I’m still proud of my prize though… :wink

This ain’t a bad idea. But judges must have to have a fast internet connection to download every single movie.

If the winner’s speech is longer than a minute, can you make a piano or something land on the minifig?

I got a couple of friends interested in Stop-Mo on French animation forums, they might be interested. They’re professionnal and often part of jury in animation contests.

So the question is : who will contact all of our stopmo friends in order to do a jury.

We could also have a internet choice made where a poll is ran on the Internet featuring the audience’s choice.
I think this idea is interesting and could bring us more publicity (maybe I’m dumb) and in a few words, it’s worth a try.
I could take in charge the recruitement of a jury if you want !

Makes quite a shock to browse the old forums ! :o
BTW, any news from Litervis and Platypus ? It seems we’ve lost some elements when switching to the new forums….

In order to build up a jury, we need everyone’s contribution : if you know people who could be interested in brickfilms, and have good eyes, time and a fast internet connection, please write it down (or PM or email me).

The following list should be considered as a basis for further reflexions.
Here are some I was thinking of :
- Karin Wien : of course, she’s doing much for our community and is in the animation business. She’s got quite an encyclopedic knowledge about lil’bricks
- Jason Rowoldt : former BF admin – for the youngest of us – but is he still interested in BF ?
- Seth Rothkin : very good knowledge, BFer and driving his own community
- Thomas Foote : a long time BFer too
- Esmeralda, though she’s linked to Josh, I found her reviews to be very wise
- Jay Silver, of course, the master of us all, pro animator now…
- Nate “Bluntman” Burr because he’s got a very sharp eye and is a good reviewer.
and some other BFer who didn’t release anything this year (write your name above if you are interested)…

I was also thinking of Cé OR Yagan, 2 people you don’t know, but who admin a very good French animation website (www.fousdanim.com) and are professors of animation at a French anime school.

and : perhaps some people at StopMotionPro and some LUG managers (don’t know them though). Y’know, the guys who allows brickfilms to be broadcast at Brickfest. Maybe some people at SpiteYourFace (Tim Drage)…

We need to find a good balance between BFer and “lurkers”. It would be good to have some pro in the jury.

There’s no reflexion about sponsorship now.
Now we also need to think twice about the nomination and deliberation process for every member of the jury (maybe a hidden forum or mailing-list, I dunno).
It think the trophies could be only virtual.

Please write down your thoughts about this…

How does being linked to me suggest that her reviews would not be very wise?

BTW, any news from Litervis

The last time i spoke to him, he was in the army.

The Plastawards were discontinued becuase it’s minor succes.
We actually encourraged everyone to post his movie but we only received 7 of them.

If we would not let people send their movies but just choose them and nominate them i’m sure the whole idea would be a marvelous succes.

Well i’m not only supprised i’m also very dissapointed at that, we set it up at a high level and we had sponsors from ‘Best Lock’ but very few did really cared about to post it’s own movie.

This is a sweet idea. I assume the nominations would be all the best movies from March 2003 to Febuary 2004 (or would it be a less broad selection?)

Probably not that soon, maybe September 2003-August 2004, if this idea does go through. It would take alot of time and effort to get it done, but it would be worth it.
