The Nadine and Charlie Music Video Competition The music group Nadine and Charlie would like to see some brickfilms made to go along with some of their tracks, and they’re putting up 300 quid to help inspire people to do it. This contest is very simple: Pick a Nadine and Charlie tune (see below) and animate a brickfilm to go with it. Nadine and Charlie will choose their three favorite videos and award the directors with prize money. There are 7 tracks available for you to animate. You can find them in downloadable form here. The top 7 tracks in this list are downloadable: -Basic Instinct I recommend you download all seven of them and give them a good listen before deciding which one to use. I also recommend that you listen to them because they’re pretty cool. Nadine and Charlie will award the following prizes, based entirely on what they decide to be their favorites 200 British Pounds for first place How much is a Pound? At the time of this posting, 1 British Pound = ~$1.72 US, which puts first place at about $345 US. Your video must be a brickfilm in the classic sense of the term. That means it needs to be stopmotion animation and you need to be animating LEGO, Mega-bloks, et al. Don’t put any titles or credits during the music. You should certainly include titles and/or credits, but put them before the music starts or after it ends. By submitting an entry in this contest, you are giving Nadine and Charlie the rights to use and distribute your film to promote the band. It’s very important that you understand this before starting on a video. As usual, cooperative efforts are welcome and encouraged. Just make sure prize distribution between you is agreed upon ahead of time in case you win anything. Also as usual, you may use absolutely no material for which you do not have distribution rights. This includes recognizable trademarks, so if you end up with LEGO logos that are visible, you need to blur them out before submitting your video. The “no-copyright rule,” as it’s come to be called, should be much easier to observe in this contest since there’s no need for music or sound effects. The due date for this contest will be Sunday March 12th. Your film must be finished, uploaded, and downloadable by the end of that day (by California reckoning). To submit your entry to the contest: -Upload your finished film somewhere it can be downloaded with relative ease. As usual, an ftp directory will be provided for people who need it. -Send an e-mail to joshua@brickfilms.com containing the following information: The names of all participating directors; the brickfilms forum names of all participating directors; a link to the download location of your film; and a statement saying “Dear Nadine and Charlie, I understand that by submitting this film to this contest I am sharing with you its distribution rights should you decide you would like to use it in the promotion of your band.” ——————————– Here are lyrics to the songs:

Mm “Signs of Life” maybe. The band gets the videos but I have no right to distribute the finished work? Do I need to get their approval first? |

Good question, PE. Do we get the right to distribute the work (at least by putting it online on our homepage, but possibly also on a DVD with a collection of our work)? Stefan. |

My understanding is that the rights will be shared. I will clarify this with the band, though. |

Of course, the text above doesn’t say “exclusive”, so it’ll be nonexclusive (though I’d be happier if the word “nonexclusive” was in that sentence, for clarity). However, do we get the nonexclusive right to distribute the song along with the video, which is quite something else. Stefan. |

The way I interpret this, you’ll be able to use your film in any way that doesn’t include making a profit. This seems perfectly fair to me. I have a question for the community on this contest: Would anyone take objection to me entering it? It’s true that I have a head start on you guys by about 2 days. It’s also true that I’ve helped organize it, but the judging is completely up to Nadine and Charlie. |

I don’t think so. I’ve listened to all 7 of them and don’t recall hearing any. edit: Sammy, I would urge you to consider making a film for this. Making a music video is a great way to get started in brickfilming. You don’t have to worry about voices, sound effects, or choosing music, and the exact length of your film is already decided for you. |

That’s how I started! And it was actually kinda good! I find music videos easy because you don’t need a story! (Usually) (Okay that was a lie) March 12… Hmmm I’m really in the mood for a music video! And 345 bucks! Super Cameraman |
