Good idea although it is whether or not the Admins decide that this job is needed to whether or not we think you are right for the job or not.

Well, you are right about this, but I think that a community representative is a good solution for everyone. The community can adress me and get least get the feeling that their voices are heard. And the new admins get someone from the “inside” to relay their ideas. I guess if TAAB or Zane start adressing the community everybody will oppose them – just because…

I also think that the new elections should be carried out by the community (me) rather than the new admins, this would help us to get the feeling of autonomy back.

    Cheers Arend

Or, we could accept the fact that we do not run this place. That we don’t have autonomy.

Seriously guys, none of the other forums I visit care to solicit the opinion of the community before making changes. I don’t recall Jason getting the community’s input when moving to this forum, no one asked me about the redesign of the site, Josh didn’t ask for our opinion when he made the patron program. Hell, Schlaeps didn’t ask us if we were OK with a new chat program. In fact, if you want a fun read, go to the oldest page of Site Feedback. Look at ALL those things Rev did without our input!

    Get over yourselves.

And doesn’t this position just further cement the “us vs them” mentality that you want to avoid? It seems to me like the mere presence of an intermediary will widen the divide between the users of these forums and TaaB & co. They are perfectly capable of telling us about future changes when said changes are set in stone, and we are perfectly capable of organizing our thoughts on these changes.

If you ask me, this position was less about Taab and Zane, and more about us as a community.

In the points that Arend listed, a lot of it was being in a position of authority over the other ministers. If we have a problem with the ministers, we would would go to the Site Admin. We wouldn’t have to bother Zane and Taab, who don’t even read the forum and probably wouldn’t care about our little squabbles. :)

It would be great if Taab and Zane would respect the position of the Site Admin, and if they get strange emails from us, they can ask the Site Admin for the background, or whatever. But that’s not something anyone can guarantee.

I personally am quite over myself. :D

I won’t vote for you yet, not untill I know that Schleaps isn’t running for admin.
or.. maybe you could make him an assistant admin?

    Well,

the point of community admin is not to restore the “old thing”. And actually Schlaeps was fired for a reason… And I am afraid that this will not be an election but more a nomination. And the whole responsibility thing is something completely different here.

    Anyway about Schlaeps:
I have to say that I fully understand his behavior (as far as there wasn´t something illegal going on, what I don´t think)… Imaging you are doing some project and suddenly this is take away from you. You try and try to get it back in the way you wanted it, and you realize there is no way that that is going to happen. What would you do? Leaving and doing your own thing is the best you can, because you are the one that has to see your face in the mirror. And frankly it is well possible that his site will be better. Which I don´t mind and as far as I understand TAAB nether. But I still would like to be part of this site, and support this community so I try to involve myself as good as I can, and community admin is somehow the best option for me. And like I said above I also think is the best for the community to have a spokesperson/representative…

    Cheers Arend

The “problem” as I see it is that thickasabrick has (repeatedly) stated that she does not wish to be an active participant in the communty. She has the “Admin” status but it should really say “Owner” – but that’s a limitation of the forum software.

Zane is here to do code and support – also not in it for the administrative stuff (and also shouldn’t say “admin”, should have on of the blue ‘Code Monkey’ bars but again – limitation of the forum software).

This means that there really isn’t anybody in an “administrative” position proper. It’s important that there be someone like that for several reasons:

    • They can be talked to about problems / suggestions.[/*]
    • They can stop small problems before they escalate.[/*]
    • They can assign other members to take care of things (mods / ministers) and keep an eye on them.[/*]
    • They can act as a filter and fix small problems themselves, pass bigger problems on to the site owners.[/*]
    • They can take the time to do the PR stuff that the site owners do not want to do.[/*]

I’m not trying to be adversarial, I’m just calling it like I see it. Humans are sheep and we like to follow. Without somebody in charge to say “this is how it is” then that leaves it open for problems like what happened over the last few days to come up.

This is effectively an application to replace Schlaeps. And I’m pretty sure that I read in one of the few posts’ of TaaB’s that they wanted someone for this position.

Maybe you would be good, but i can’t get myself to vote for you. not after what you said about schleaps. Schleaps was NOT fired for a reason, but because taab though he would oppose her ruining brickfilms, look at the forums, they used to get around 100 posts per day, now they get around 10.
