what exactly are after effects and premiere? Are they great tools, and should I save for either or both of them?

Thanks,
Dan

Adobe Premiere is a fancy high end movie making software. It allows you to do pretty much anything with it and it is use mainly by pros. Adobe After Effects is a special effects program of some sort. I’m not sure about it though. I own Premiere and I have always used it for every movie I have made.

There are alternatives

Videomach is free, but not as full-featured
Premiere is the industry standard, but costs $550
After Effects has some overlap with Premiere, but is more geared towards fx – it costs $650
Vegas (http://www.sonicfoundry.com) is very easy to pick up and is what I used for OOT. Currently selling for the rather unusual price of $489.97

I’d recommend starting with Videomach and the other free tools listed in the FAQ and getting the hang of the basics of animation before you go crazy and spend a fortune on software.
