…that isn’t even possible with phpBB forums.

Anyway, on another forum (can’t remember what forum software it was using, but it’s not one that I’ve seen very often) it has the option for the user to select which forums they see and which ones they don’t.

So in the case of brickfilms, they might not wish to see the Animation, Hardware or Music forums so they could untick those and they simply wouldn’t show up for that user (when they were logged in).

I see very little gain (the forums look a little less bulky) and a lot of loss (lots of tables or one giant table / database for every user so the server knows who wants to see what) so I doubt that it’s a good idea to implement even if it is possible.

However, it’s the only thing I can think of, and maybe it’ll inspire someone else into thinking of something that’s actually useful…

It’s not so much a bad idea, it might be useful.

But I think it’s a solution in search of a problem. Nobody’s really been upset about being able to see more content.

I could be wrong though. Those are just my observations.

I’ve only seen one forum that offered it, so most people probably aren’t aware that it might be an option..

Normally it’s not a big deal, but I’ve seen some forums where the main page just keeps going and going with literally dozens of sub-forums. Brickfilms seems to be heading that way, but that’s because I’m involved in so much that I can see the special forums, the voting forums, the extra forums, etc.

You’re right, it’s a solution in search of a problem.

Well, when Project Super was starting out and we had forum issues, I asked RevMen if it were possible to add a new subforum in the Community Project forum He preferred not to add another one as the forum itself is quite cluttered to add another forum again.

This is similar to group assignments. LDF members can see the LDF forum, Patrons can see the Patron forum, Reviewers can see the Review Forum.

I can see how this would be useful, but probably not very necessary. I would probably just block off the FAQ.

I would probably use it if it were there, but I don’t feel an overwhelming need for the feature.

As far as the governmental forums go, they won’t be necessary by the upcoming election anyway. Not sure what will happen to them though.

I was looking further down the line when we might have a dozen additional forums visible to the regular visitor.

But everyone’s right. We don’t need this, at least not now…

I would agree the feature is really not needed on a forum. But, if it is user friendly and cool on the eyes, then why not?
