I had planned on saving this until later, but somehow my call for category ideas spilled over into the review committee, so let’s just start this part of it now. Each film in the directory will have several written reviews associated with it. I’ve transformed all of Hali’s, Jason’s, and Jared’s reviews into “review #1″ for all of the existing films, and new ones will of course need new reviews. Reviews can be added to any of the old films, though that’s not really necessary as they wrote great reviews that were pretty comprehensive. I am forming a “panel of reviewers” that will consist of a small number of people. The exact number will be determined by the number of qualified applicants, but will likely not exceed 5. Each reviewer will be responsible for doing small write-ups of films in the directory, though it is not necessary to do a write-up for every individual film. With 5 people, it should be fairly easy to get at least two reviews written about each film, and a reviewer can’t get to every film, it’s not big deal. As I was looking through all the old films in the new database it finally began to occur to me how much work Hali put into watching all of those films and writing reviews for them. That, my friends, was a thankless job. And that is why I’d like to spread the responsibility, but still keep it amongst a small, qualified group. So at this time I ask that anyone who is interested in joining the panel to please write me a letter stating why they think they’d do a good job. I’m not talking 5 paragraph essay, here, just a simple letter that goes over your involvment in bickfilms, both the art and this community, and why you’d like to be on the panel of reviewers. Also of great importance, you must have excellent English grammar skills. I will freely admit that I am a bit of a grammar nazi, and I want to make sure that these reviews, visible to all who browse the film directory, have proper spelling, punctuation, and so forth. Please realize that this is a volunteer responsibility you’ll be applying for. The only thing I can be certain that I can give in return is a nice title in the forums and my thanks. So keep that in mind. OK, please send “applications” to joshua@brickfilms.com and let’s get this underway. When I see that the flow of incoming applications seems to have dried up I will post a deadline for last minute applications. |

Just to set the record straight, before Hali was doing reviews, it was Jared. Sorry I missed that Jared! That job definitely a lot of work! |

hey rev….. for example: joe brickfilmer submits a movie/clip to be reveiwed and the reveiwer so instead of that we have a reveiw BOARD….. again it sounds complicated but its only a suggestion |

The trick would probably be to get a group of reviewers who can rise above personal differences and be objective about a film. |

I would love to do it, and I pretty much get along with everyone here so I would be able to be objective. Maybe I will send an email |

OK, the flow of e-mails form people wishing to be on the panel seems to have stopped, so the official deadline is Monday morning, when I get up to go to work. Actually, it’ll be Monday morning when I check my e-mail before going to work. I don’t know how many times I’ll hit snooze Monday morning, so I can’t give you an exact time. So if anyone else is interested in being on the review panel, you need to e-mail me before then. |

how are movies going to be added to the site? is the review panel going to “hand-pick” the movies from the “post movies” section of the forum, or are they still going to have to be emailed to the site. |

I’m sure that if you read this thread and others in the site redesign forum you would find the answer several times. People will submit their films via a forum, then someone from the review panel will OK it and it will go live in the directory. |

make sure all the people on the panel have a high speed connection, otherwise, you will have some problems. |

Totally diasgree nate. Why? As well as being unfair and discriminatory to people who can actually write and review well I have another issue… So it might take a few more hours to download, but if you use download managers properly you’ll never have a problem. Additionally, this will mean people will not take the time to LEARN how to effectively and efficiently use video compression to create the smallest high quality file… As always, the push for high speed internet across the web is great. The problem is that if this happens before people know how to use their new found bandwidth effectively its just gonna cause the web to slow down. hali (on his high horse) |

Lol, Nate, your basically blocking out both Hali and Bluntman, (Possibly the 2 best filmmakers, but lets not get into a debate, note the ‘possibly’), as they can’t get Broadband due to the horiffic pices of High Speed Internet in Australia. I don’t want that to happen. Sides, its rediculous anyway. For the most part, the reason you don’t have broadband is because its not available in your area, not because it costs to much or your to lazy to get it. I got my Broadband as soon as we moved to an area where it was available. We lived to far out in the booneys before. Really, as Hali said, High Speed Internet has nothing to do with being a good rater. Good raters can tell whether bad film quality was due to compression, or crappy cam to start with. Yolegoman, who’s trying to lower his daily post count and also make them more useful |
