Rev,
Would it be possible for you to consider special treatment for certain users that will remain temporarily unnamed? Special treatment would involve the loss of the use of emoticons, img tags, the word “hack”, and in some cases, capital letters. This would happen so that the entire community is not forced to lose their privileges, but only that the offenders may have a slight loss of their ability to annoy the other users.

I thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
~Brian Geppert

PS – The privilege to choose ones own avatar, and the privilege to post at all could also be considered as part of the “Special Treatment” plan.

PSS – The loss of the letter “3″ should definetly be included in the Special Treatment Plan.

That could also be considered as “Temporary Banning from the Forums”.

huh, i don’t think it would be worth it for revmen have to make some special prohibiting device. i don’t think phpbb already has this… but nontheless if it is simple enough to make then by all means go for it!

I think people are annoyed with, for example, your signature.

“shutup you buttheads

j00 all mutha flippers”

That, and your reputation for being a pain in the butt.

Banjo,

I’m not sure it is the best choice to decide to post in a way that will mean most people will CHOOSE not to read what you say. It isn’t going to help you any. Not one little bit.

Rather than trying to limit what an individual can post, an “Ignore User” option might be more handy. It doesn’t exactly foster community spirit, but it would probably minimise the pointless flaming.

I bet there’s a h4ck to do it. :wink

Hahaha, Buxton.

But I already ignore certain users – It’s just that there would be a lot less flaming etc. if everyone else did, too.

Always willing to help people ignoring topics.

Banjo, I’m sure RevMen understands perfectly well that the things you call a “hack” are actually modifications to the PHPBB system, to add functionality.

However, many hacks might start conflicting with each other, since they are not authorised by the original PHPBB creators. Also, they might introduce new security issues into your boards. An example was the first chat room RevMen tried: it allowed you to log in with any username not already in there.

Considering this, and considering also that these forums work quite fine without extensions, I’d say forget about your hacks. They won’t get installed, so don’t even try.

Stefan, who’s going to either lock or delete any new “hack” topic and message Banjo starts.
