Friends and fellow brickfilmers, I would like to say that I am running for Minister of Information. I have many ideas that could greatly benefit this community’s news system. Like say, updating it on a regular basis. I scan brickfilms everyday, almost always more than once, and make an attempt to see every topic posted. Also, I would like to change the current system, by allowing anyone to PM me news they feel is important, rather than appointing deputies. I would then sort through the messages, and decide which news would best benefit our community. Now, you may be thinking, “If you update so often, isn’t most of the news going to be pointless junk?”. No way. I will make certain that anything put on our news page is something you, the people want to hear about.
As for the grammar portion of this job, I believe you should find my skills more than acceptable.
I also plan to update the featured film every week, so you can see more of the best brickfilms around.
To conclude, I Squash am running for Minister of Information. It you support what I have previously said, then please, vote for me.
Any questions or comments?June 10, 2007 at 3:49 pm #294144

Well, right now, we have a system where the minister appoints deputies. These people would help him/her by telling the minister about important news. The thing I wish to change, is to give every member the right to send me things they deem important, and then I (the minister) would look at all the suggestions, and post the most useful, need to know, important ones. This way, I get much more news, and the community gets to see what their fellow members think they need to know. This will also stop me from having to pick favorites 😛 . In other words, everyone can be a deputy, without asking.June 10, 2007 at 5:23 pm #294198

Hmmm… I guess this sounds alright. Perhaps you could have a few experienced deputies in addition to letting everyone send you stuff. I also think it would be nice if you posted an update if some new film came out that was killer awesome and everyone needed to go see right then. As of now, the news being posted seems too stiff, and it often doesn’t get put up right on time. Most members, I think, already know about it by the time it gets posted on the front page.June 11, 2007 at 2:40 am #294471

Yes. I was wondering if you might consider any of the following events newsworthy enough to report on their developments (announcements, updates, or results):
June 11, 2007 at 1:31 pm #294554
- IDEA Logo Contest[/*]
- Steinerei Festival & Film Contest[/*]
- Nadine & Charlie Music Video Contest[/*]
- The TTC Contest[/*]
- FreeLUG Summer Meet festival (FreeLUG Rencontre Estivale)[/*]
- IDEA Contest[/*]
- The Nerd Parade Music Video Contest[/*]
- The LEGO Star Wars Movie-making Contest[/*]
^Yes, I would. I would post the initial announcements, then, when there was an update, I would post in the news a link to the thread, and, if needed, explain what the update is. I would definitely post on local contests (community wise), and any that are posted in the forums. Right now, for instance, I would have made a news post announcing the “No Second Troy” Music video competition. Anything that the brickfilmers should hear about, I would post. I think any small (or large) short film contest, that was well though through obviously, should be considered news.
I think I’d rather just vote for someone willing to do the work involved.
Please explain. I am going to be doing the work. I will be browsing through sources just like any other MoI would. The thing is, that I’m adding, not changing.
EDIT: Yeah Nick, I was thinking that I will post a news article on any film that is well received, or is getting much attention. Or both.June 11, 2007 at 1:59 pm #294559
I really don’t recall anyone actually having deputies. It was thrown out as an option, from Rev, when I was MoI – because I was ultra busy. But I never actually had any, and I don’t believe KG ever appoited deputies.
The job is easy enough for one person to do, considering that there isn’t normally enough to have to post more than once a day. (Usually less than that is better, because by the end of the week, you couldn’t glance and see the news from the beginning of the week.) 2-3 times a week is probably a good balance.
As far as having people PM you with news, they do that already. I don’t know that inviting people to overload your PM box is necessarily the best idea.
Then you have frustration when someone PMs you something and it doesn’t get posted. How would you handle that?
It’s foolhearty to leave it to one person’s discretion to pick and choose between user-submitted material. That’s why we have an MoI, one person elected by the community to be trusted to find the most noteworthy news, and post it.
I’m not against your running, but I think your methods could stand a little improvement. I like your initiative though, and I like to see fresh faces running for positions on Brickfilms.com!
Keep up the campaigning!
