Can this be based on any form of literature, like a poem, or is it strictly supposed to be based on books?
I’l try! But Im up to my ears with projects!
Great idea for a contest Aled! I’ll have to attempt a film or two!
Also, I think that next… next year (2009) we ought to make this official so that Aled doesn’t have to put up for another prize. Brickfilms.com can probably pull together enough for something similar. Maybe next year’s prize could be something like AfterEffects or Shake…
Aled, I have a question regarding this contest: does it have to be a scene from a book, or can it be a trailer-type film? When I saw this thread, I thought of the perfect book to use, but it would be in the form of a trailer. But even if I can’t use that idea, I think this is a really cool idea for a contest.
It can be a trailer, but it HAS to be from a book.
Just got my Quickcam Pro 9000, all i need now is a laptop and I’m set. Laptop’s coming in about 3 days!
Cool; I have no use for Sony Vegas, but I might try adapting something good. I’m thinking about The House of the Scorpion, one of my favorite books. Or maybe something classic, like Catcher in the Rye.
Aled, can we adapt a short story?
I don’t know if I’ll enter or not, but I have a perfect idea for a book/trailer/music combo!
I think the point is more to adapt a segment of a dramatic narrative, not to give people an idea of it. We’ve had too many trailers.
And adapting a single scene is something that new brickfilmers with fewer resources will be able to do too.
Exactly. I sort of wish that we were limited to adapting a scene out of a book as was the original intention because this would set entries apart from regular trailers. Also an extract from a book would take a lot less time to make than a proper trailer, in which one can usually only use each set in a few shots.
