I am posting in regards to the voting draft I made for ‘The Quest for ‘____’ Contest’. I wasn’t too keen on the last one I sent in a pm to you, Saulgoode, so I made another:
I wish for everyone to read this all carefully, because there were a few slight changes in judging. Hello, fellow brickfilmers. After the nearly 5 month deadline, The Quest for ‘____’ Contest has completed. Over 20 people wanted to participate, but not as much were able to be finished before the deadline. Guidelines in submitting ballots: There are four areas being judged. Animation — Focus on which film had the most life-like, smoothest and fluent animation. Sample Ballot: Hello, Steviecolli, here is my ballot I wish to submit in The Quest for ‘____’ Contest: Animation: Story: Sound Design: Cinematography: - [Your Name] Note: 1) = Best. You probably knew this already, but I want to mention all the details Ballot Submission: Please PM (private message) Steviecolli with your ballots. Each ballot should be titled ‘The Quest for ‘___’ Ballot’. Deadline in submitting ballots: Your Ballots must be sent to me by March 12th 2008 List of Films (In no particular order): Here is a list of films in which you can send ballots for: The Quest for the Camera — by maronislego The Quest for the Torc Alliah — by yerman The Quest for Space — by deathdog The Quest for the Blood Diamond — by Darkman Tha’ Quest for tha’ missprinted hipoint counter thing — by TheThousandBrick Benny n’ Lee in: Teh Quest for Pants! — by SmallTimeProductions The Quest for the Computer — by wenchance I hope you read everything and made your ballot well thought out. Thank you all. -Stevie Collins
I am wondering if I should use the catagories: Animation, Story, Sound Design and Cinematography or Theme, General Presentation and Story, I need your opinion on that. I think the people who entered are allowed to submit ballots, but I’m not sure on that incase he votes for himself on 1st in every catagory. I also need an opinion on that. If you think it is best, I’ll add it in the draft. I am also asking for a tiny favour, I don’t know if it is a good idea, but I was thinking, saulgoode could post the voting thread (i’d pm you what the thread should look like) That way, we might have more ballots, since you are more ‘popular’ than me when it comes to Contests, obviously. Thank you. -StevieCollins |

Sorry for not posting sooner. The judging criteria you have posted is fair (which is the main concern); I just wonder if we can’t make it a little bit easier on judges while still providing guidance. I think one of the reasons that the THAC contest has seen such poor response with regard to judging is the complexity of the ballot (though admittedly a THAC judge has a lot of films to watch).
I am not a fan of categories (animation, story, etc) unless there are awards/prizes specifically for those categories (e.g., Best Soundtrack Prize). I would propose that you just have each judge rank his top three films. You could mention the categories as guidelines in a manner similar to “Please take into account the animation, story, sound design, and cinematography when making your decision.“ It is of course your choice as to whether you wish to handle it that way, I just feel that most judges are capable of properly evaluating the merits of the films — especially if the judging is to be handled by Patrons and the Staff of Brickfilms. Are you planning to let the general membership submit ballots? Just Patrons? Just Staff?
If you allow an entrant to vote, but don’t let him select his own film, then you have to worry about the case of him voting for the worst films (because that would increase his chances of winning). This is equally or more disruptive than letting them vote for their own film. It is my (strong) opinion that entrants — if permitted to vote at all – should be permitted to vote for their own films. I am not opposed to entrants not being permitted to vote, either.
If that is what you want, I would be happy to; however, this is your contest and I feel YOU should make the post and sticky it as an Announcement (might as well use your Mod powers for something, eh?). I don’t think you should worry about a lack of judges and I doubt that my involvement would have that much effect. You have done a fine job and I think that everyone realizes that. |

I’ve decided to take your advice in the message you sent me after I showed you my first draft, therefore, al membership will be allowed, I think it will be more fair anyway.
You have a point, I think I might let them then, I’m sure they’ll be noble enough to tell the truth in their ballots.
Okay, I’ll do it then, as you said I might aswell use my mod powers for something anyway.
Thank you very much. Now, regarding the prizes, back in January you offered a brickfilms DVD along with the three prizes. I have tha message deleted because my inbox was filling up (I should have saved it) did you offer a brickfilms DVD with along with each of the prizes? as in three DVDs for first, second and third? That is my only question, thank you for your suggestions and help. -StevieCollins |

I agree. The more votes that are submitted, the less worrisome is the problem of a few “cheaters”. Also, I feel everyone benefits from the excitement of judging contests, especially newer members to the site.
It will be three DVDs, one for each place. I will try to offer the choice of which DVD the winners want (FIG, HAV, or HAT), but I am not completely sure that there are enough if all three choose the same DVD (but we should be able to resolve that).
Thank you for having your contest and also for helping me with other issues. |

Excellent, I think even if they can’t decide which one they get, they’ll still be happy.
Your very welcome, I was happy to. -StevieCollins |

I nearly forgot to quote a thing that should have explaination.
I know what you mean, it would be easier to just do ballots with you voting for first, second and third. The reason I put the four catagories for each ballot is because in the results I am going to post who got the best of each catagory (whoever gets the most points). People who get a first place vote in any catagory will recieve 3 points, a second place gives you two points and a third place gives you 1. As for choosing the Best in each catagories, whoever got the most points in animation, has the best animtion, same for story, sound design etc. -StevieCollins |

Here is my first run at the counts. I will check later for errors (or maybe a vote was added since your tally). Blood = 17*3 + 19*2 + 7 = 51+38+7 = 96 |
