The other developer was out sick today (birthday party caught up with him I bet), but when he gets in tomorrow he’ll likely be starting on the tutorials section. Thats kind of ‘the plan’ in a nutshell at the moment.

    Btw, leo, I saw the video and thought it was awesome – no real quality issue there 😛

    Sounds great – thanks for all your hard work.

    “stephenl” wrote: Ok – Update time! We officially have a box. Yes, thats right. A box. But no ordinary box – you can upload videos to the youtube ‘brickfilmspodcast’ channel with it. By the way, for anyone wondering, I did get clarification from the owner in regards to the channel and it does belong to brickfilms.

    I’m sorry to have to have to contradict the owners here, but RevMen (Joshua Leasure, the previous owner of Brickfilms.com) has said multiple times that he made it clear he would not include the podcast as part of the sale – he didn’t have the right to do so. The films in the account were included under the good faith of brickfilmers who trusted the people managing the podcast at the time. They didn’t give all rights to the films to Brickfilms.com and this should be respected. Including these videos as they are currently, without permission of the content creators and the creators of the podcast, is dishonest and it really isn’t acceptable even if the “brickfilmspodcast” YouTube account belongs to Brickfilms.com on grounds of trademark. This may seem harmless enough but some of these people have the videos on their own channels and generate revenue through this via YouTube’s partnership program.

    Is there any plan in the future to reinstate the old style links to films (in the format http://brickfilms.com/films/123)? I was browsing the interwebs and there’s a whole lot of sites that link directly to film pages here and they currently get a 404. A lot of those films are hard to find outside of this place and it would be nice to have access to them.

    Man, the text is big here.

    @Smeagol
    I’m not the authority on this subject – if there is a problem, please bring it up with the owner of the site. I’m just following marching orders and trying to get things up as quick as possible. Considering they are already in the channel, however, I have my doubts that its really that big of a deal. All we’re doing is allowing people to search the channel and watch the movies, not claiming ownership or anything like that. Also, if someone wants their movie removed then they should contact the owner of the site.

    –Yes. I should have the browsing up by late tonight (its currently 15:13 here and I’d expect the directory to be up in full by about 21:00).

    I think Smeagol’s point is that many brickfilmers actually generate revenue through the partner program, so people watching their videos on another channel is actually costing them money.

    But yes, this is an issue to take up with the owner.

    Understood, I don’t mean to hold this against you personally given it’s not under your control, I appreciate your receptiveness and work ethic on the site. I can’t personally verify that these people don’t want their films on the channel but I wanted to clarify that the previous owner of this site deliberately left out the podcast materials in the sale, and made this very clear. And what Leonardo said.

    With all due respect, the last time people requested to the owner that their films be removed from the site, editing on the directory was locked so they couldn’t remove their films. So while the owner would probably be the right person to address, you have to understand that many people are going to be reluctant to ask her about this kind of thing.

    I was in the chat today and realized you could change your username. We were having fun with it, but I can see it starting some confusing situations.

    A question on the directory setup:

    When a film is uploaded, what would happen to it before a review panel member watches it and approves/rejects it from the directory? Is it stored somewhere on the site? Is it hosted on the YT channel but not made public?

    There is actually a channel on youtube – ‘BrickFilmsPodcast’.

    Every video uploaded is sent directly to youtube and made private. Once a video is approved, it is simply made public and some “special” stuff happens over here in the database. If it is completely rejected, it can be deleted – that will delete it from the directory here as well as from youtube. Note that this is only applicable for movies uploaded via our site – not videos that we are just given a link to. If we are just giving a link, activating/deactivating/deleting is all done on our end only – we have no ability to delete someone elses video! 😯
