Stefan,
I am getting a lot of requests from users to submit mp3 format.

I tried to upload and convert an mp3, but after the conversion stage I got a message saying “not all file types created. please correct the database manually”
What does this mean? is submitting in mp3, ogg or flac causing errors in the SoX script?

thanks.

Hmmm. MP3 should work, in theory, and .ogg as well. .flac doesn’t work yet.

I’ll look into it soon.

Stefan.

I tested this, and it seems as if .ogg works fine, but .mp3 fails.

The system works by first expanding the file to a .wav, and then feeding that to the various encoders. Apparently the .wav created from a .mp3 file is somehow invalid – it uses 32-bit samples. I don’t think it’d hurt to force the samples to 16-bit, but this would theoretically decrease the quality of sounds presented in 8-bit originally. I’ll build it into the system for now, and would like to hear comments.

EDIT: .mp3 uploads should work now.

Stefan.
