This is the official Watson for Minister of Filming Resources thread. Take the time to consider my plan, and to comment on it.

My platform is really very simple. I believe that simple is safe. It also makes sense.

I see no reason why our current resources section should not be integrated into the encyclopedia. The brickfilms encyclopedia is the greatest resource we’ve ever had, and it could be so much more. It’s rather out of the way, in my opinion, being part of a wack of links over on the right-hand side of the front page. If the resources was integrated, it would no doubt direct far more traffic to the encyclopedia, increasing attention to it, and hopefully increasing contributions to it in the process. The resources link at the top of the page would now link to the resources page in the wiki.

This process will involve cafeful teamwork with our minister of Truth, schlaeps, which I look forward to.

It goes without saying that I will work to add content as well, but I don’t claim to be the authority on any particular subject. One of the benefits of wiki integration is that anyone can contribute. I won’t allow just anyone to modify the resources page itself, but I will certainly encourage the creation of content by others. Drawing upon our collective expertise will yield the greatest results.

I want to take some time to comment briefly on the platform of my opponent, Kyle. His platform is focused primarily on content creation, which is, of course, extremely useful, but is not at all dependant on election. What I’m getting at is that regardless of who is chosen for this position, the proposed content will be added. Therefore, you are really voting for the system you’d prefer to see, whether that be the current separation of these two sections, or the final, inevitable, and (in my opinion) logical amalgamation of them.

Please feel free to express any thoughts or concerns that you have about my qualifications and/or platform for this position.

I’ve been confused as to the purpose of the Resources section since the Wiki started getting content, so I’m with you all the way.

    Let them MERGE!

I agree with Watson on some points he made. I did mention wanting to merge both the Wiki and Resources but hadn’t added it to my original post.

“Yes I thought about that a long time ago, it seems like we are making this more difficult by splitting where you can find stuff into too many places. If I could get the articles in the Wiki in an organized and catagorized fasion in the Resources section, everything would be in one spot and easy to find.”

I don’t think I focus primarily on just adding content however. Adding is all well and good but fixing old things that have been added is what I plan to do even more. Almost every article can have an update by now.

On the whole Wiki + Resources I couldn’t agree more. I think the only difference is I wanted to go integrating the Wiki into the Resources not the other way around and for this reason:

    – Wiki requires searching mostly so unless someone knows what to search, odds are a n00b wont find it, which means they then will ask anyways in the forums. (seems rediculous but you guys know it will/does happen)

    – Resources are put into catagories right away, so things are quick to find. You want FX related topics you scroll right down and you got everything there at your fingertips. Same goes with editing, post-production, pre-production, etc. I think linking Wiki articles into a nice catagorized fasion in the resources section is a great way to make them easier to find. Keep in mind the Wiki will be updated along with the resources but I think for initial questions, they would be answered faster in an outline format for someone to look at and pick their article accordingly.

Either way whomever wins I hope to work close with the winner because there is much I want to fix. Even if I wouldn’t be in charge I plan to send loads of updates for things and have a bunch of things submitted.

    Cheers,
    – Kyle

First of all, I disagree with this approach. I will now explain why by discussing each of your reasons.

As I see it, this is, in fact, one of the major reasons why the resources should be integrated into the wiki. Remember, I’m not just talking about putting the tutorials and interviews into the wiki. I’m talking about putting a resources page into the wiki.

It will be somewhat like it is now, divided into several topics, with links to other wiki articles — somewhat like an index of sorts, but more focused, with an emphasis on organization.

Again, this is easily accomplished by having a resources page in the wiki, with the added benefit of the fact that people will actually be going to the wiki. Thus, it will become a singular repository about our hobby — centralizing everything, rather than dividing it up.

ah I see your approach now…I guess I either didn’t get that from your post or I just misunderstood.

I thought you meant placing the resources articles within the Wiki JUST in the search function not in a catagorie plateform as well. Thats why I said what I did.

I actually prefer this approach over Kyle’s (sorry Kyle, I still love you). However I’m not sure if I should vote for Watson, as I’m unsure whether he’s serious or not.

EDIT: I nearly missed the point I was making. Watson, how serious are you about these elections?

…Read the thread. I don’t think he’d be making all these points if he wasn’t serious.

Yeah, but his multiple runs + signature makes me doubt.

While I readily admit that my first thread was tongue-in-cheek (which should have been obvious), I am completely serious about the positions that I’m still running in. Please don’t hesitate to lend me your support if you approve of my plans.
