You’re probably right about that. It has that ur-Windows look peculiar to Delphi. I think we need Stefan for this.

We could make a brickfilms edition. That would be cool.

EDIT: Oops, I failed to read the entire thread and therefore the subject of my original post has already been addressed.
wait what?

your asking for someone to make changes to SMA so that you can sell it? Because you’ve already established in previous post that you are not making any changes yourself.
No. Prog is saying that he might wish to sell the movie he makes with his capture program, or perhaps enter it in a contest, neither of which would be permitted under AnimatorDV Free’s “personal home use” restriction.
Except being all weird. There are only a few things that Anasazi really needs. Think about it before you ask for everything at once.

A built in editor/timeline. You need to know what frames you have taken, and be able to remove one or two. It’s not a requirement, but it would be a good addition.

DV Camera support (I am assuming it doesn’t already have that)

Extended capture resolution (IIRC, it doesn’t go above 640×480)

You obviously haven’t read the whole thread. But it’s nice to see that people are thinking the same way I am. An update for those who don’t want to read the whole thread:
-You can mess around with Anasazi for free
-We want to improve Anasazi
-We need Stefan’s help to do it
-Thinking about making a special “Brickfilmer’s stop motion capture program that will probaly be free, but not as advanced as stop motion pro. It’ll be made for brickfilming mainly.
-Any help is graciously accepted.
I don’t mind making it a better alternative, I’m just saying, if you want it to be just like Monkeyjam, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t just get Monkeyjam. I just meant to reply to that post, and yes, I did read the whole thread.

I don’t know Anasazi, but from the feature list it sounds to me that it would probably be better to start a whole new project. Working with other people’s code is usually not very attractive, even less attractive if it’s in some weird, proprietary or even obsolete language.

Hey guys,

I emailed Marc Spess, at animateclay.com, the original owner and distributor of Anasazi Stopmotion Animator, and here is what he had to say: (reprinted with permission)

I read the thread (at Brickfilms) and yes it sounds great if anyone would like to update Anasazi. I think the main thing to update if possible is compatibility issues such as with Windows Vista, XP etc. Some people have problems still, I believe because of codec issues or video drivers. It’s just very outdated in that area. Compatibility is the most important thing. If it were compatible with Mac’s and Liniux, that would be even better but of course its not required.

Anything else is just extra but welcome if someone wants to spend the time to do it. I think once it is updated there should be a few things we do. First we need to give credit to the programmer/programmers who update it.

Then I think since this is an alliance between Brickfilms and Animateclay.com, we should both distribute it and promote each others sites within the program. So maybe a splash screen with our links, and the list of programmers including Penn Taylor who wrote the first code.

Lastly we need to post a legal document stating its free and open source, but that the credit for our sites and programmers remain intact. We also need to mention you can’t bundle it with software for sale, and that it must remain free.

Ok feel free to post this on the thread, and thanks for starting it. I really hope someone will help out.

Marc

As you probably know, Marc has been very supportive of Brickfilms over the last few years, often plugging Brickfilms he liked on here on his site. He is a professional animator with many years of experience in the field, and I think it was really nice of him to give away a program that has helped us all—a piece of software he could have charged for, but chose to pay it forward in the hopes that something good would come of it.

The first priority would be updating it to make it compatible with newer systems, drivers etcetera. That’s really all Anasazi needs.

True;

If I could program, I would have Anasazi flipping between the live feed and the recorded image without wiggling around all over the place. I really want to blame my Nvidia card, but I don’t know what’s causing it. If it’s just a bug associated with incompatibility with XP Media Center, then I would fix that first.

I’m gonna have a go at this. I dunno about coding in Delphi, but I may just recode the whole thing.
