You should check with the people who sold you the computer. Even if you qualify for a downgrade to XP (I think downgrades are not available for Vista Basic), your machine may not support XP fully (some Sony laptops do not have XP drivers available).

The basic process is to obtain an install disk for XP (you don’t need to own it, just borrow one from someone), wipe your harddrive clean, install XP, and then contact Microsoft for activation. You will need your Vista activation code.

Spelling everything in lower case with “u” instead of “you” doesn’t exactly show your intelligence.
Amped, was trying to help. You’d be surprised how many people come with a question without having googled it.

You should do what I do, and have a google search bar in the upper right corner of your screen. That way it’s right there, no excuses.

Before Xp can install it has to check that your system is combatible so click the 3rd button first and then if combatible it will allow you to install.

If your system isn’t compatible it will most probally say “install anyway”

You should be able to boot your computer from the CD drive. Insert the XP disc, and then shut down and restart your computer. If the computer goes straight to Vista, then watch the boot up sequence to see if you can press a function key to get a boot menu. Or, set your boot sequence in the BIOS to start with the CD.

The XP setup will detect your existing setup and walk you through removing it, so that you can replace it with XP.

Sorry.. why do you want XP? People keep criticizing vista for being the same as XP.

Many programs (and I have experienced this myself with Vista) have requirments that might say they require XP. While you can download it on to Vista, all of the extra security and stuff they have put on Vista might prevent all of it from being downloaded, or won’t let parts of the program work. Of course, rendering the program entirely useless. While it doesn’t happen to all programs, I am still wondering wether to use XP instead myself…

But really, Vista is the same as XP, just with a lot of annoying extra security. That’s all.

And Aero. And media center…

Legoman, who has never had this experience with any program on vista.
