I wrote this not realizing I had to include the questions, I assumed I could just write the answers. So I rewrote it.

This morning I woke up to a pleasant surprise, which was being nominated as a possible candidate for Minister of Truth. The Minister of Truth is the person who is responsible for the brickfilms wikipedia.

What experience do I have relating to this ministry, and why do I feel like I am the right person for this job?

Now, I do not know if I am a top contributor to this project or not, but I have done quite a few edits and have added some rather good articles to the wikipedia (Which you can see by going onto my user page on the brickfilms wikipedia site). Some of which has been applauded by Saulgoode (The first, or one of the first, wiki curators, and a very respected member of Brickfilms.com) and Various other members. I have also made some very useful threads on the forum and have made attempts to collaborate all of the useful threads (with the help of the community) to put into the wikipedia(which I intend to do myself if I get elected).

I am very active in reading blogs and sites such as Digg and Reddit, which helps me to stay informed in a lot of areas (there is much more than the meets the eye to both reddit and Digg, the front page of those websites are only but a small fraction of what they have to offer), including but limiting to, technology and new software. I also, quite frequently, go on surfing sprees looking for free, open-source, and if it is worth the money, commercial software that would be useful to the members of brickfilms.com.

In my last ministry I was praised for gathering some interested back into sound, and for rewriting the guidelines and some of the sound articles. The previous administrator personally thanked me for the amount of effort I put in to it. If you saw me run for last year you know I am the type of person who thinks about what he does, and puts his all in to it. Unfortunately, all of you on the outside of brickfilms, you did not get to see all of what I had planned. When my term ended, I didn’t know where to go. My assigned programmer was not responding and I was unable to move forward and implement the ideas I had promised. It was not my fault because I really tried to see that things would improve. When I saw what had happened I decided to let my term end quietly, and I promised I’d come back for more.

Well, here I am. And I want your vote, because this time, I have a feeling, will be much different. Different programmers are in place, we have a new administrator, we have a new system coming in order. I want to give it another try. You guys know who I am, and from that judge whether or not I am worthy of this position.

I am not going to put on some sort of show, I am not going to write a fancy speech. All I did was write was on the top of my mind, and there it is. I am who I am, and if you think who I am, is a good person for the Job, then vote.

What are my ideas to expand or improve the Ministry?

Besides the usual curator’s assumed responsibility (Moderating the spam, making sure articles are accurate, coming up with new fresh ideas to keep the wiki interesting, etc),
• I will see that every useful resourceful article on the forum will be allocated, sorted, and graded. Then they will be linked into the wikipedia so that they are easier to find. If necessary, they will be copied on to the wikipeda rather than just linking to the thread.
    [/*]
  • You will get updates on new pages and new improvements on the wikipedia.[/*]
  • There will be an explosion of resources by the end of my term.[/*]
  • There will be collaborations done for the wikipedia page, and that when I leave the wikipedia will be a better place.[/*]
  • I also have a list of unconfirmed ideas about collaboration within the other ministry’s, Ideas that would make Brickfilms.com more streamline and more organized. I do not want to list these ideas until I could have confirmation with each minister as I do not want to make empty promises.[/*]
  • A logical system to reduce the amount of spam without the moderation or screening of your personal passwords and information.[/*]
How much time would I be able to spend performing my duties as Minister of Truth?

Being homeschooled I can schedule as much time as required an more, I have a really flexible schedule and will be able to put quite a lot of time in to it.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to my speech.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask them.

I’ll vouch for Chosen1′s effort into the sound library.

The amount of work put into it was absolutely outstanding, especially the amount of time taken outside of the public eye to talk to us developers and write out extensive steps and goals for the entire ministry.

Now, back to the topic.

What would you do about the limited participation from forum members / active brickfilmers in the wiki?

Thank-you very much, Schlaeps.

What would you do about the limited participation from forum members / active brickfilmers in the wiki?

I think this question could be interpreted several ways, but I am going to answer it the way I think you mean it. If I am wrong, tell me.

There is obviously an odd balance of participation in the wiki. We have members who have put a load of work into it and then stopped, we have those who continuously put work into it, then we have those who randomly edit it a word or so but don’t contribute much.

Like the Sound system, when I was minister, I believe we have lack of participation partially because of lack of interest. Interest is easily sparked, and if enough of that is done I think we will see more participations. However, there is several sides to this problem. I also think we have lack of participation because people don’t know where to go first. We have the FAQ, we have the Filming Resources, We have the Forum Posts, and then we have the Wiki. All of them are great sources, but it can be rather confusing. If possible I would like to see that we could all collaborate somehow in making the resources more streamline.

The first thing I know I can do, I know I can find ways to regain interest. Making a post on wikipedia guidelines including ideas for making articles, Posting updates on improvements, putting new information that people want to see, allocating the forum posts in a massive collection for anyone to browse easily. These are just ideas off of the top of my head, I intend to find more things to add to the wiki.

The active participants of the wiki, and by active I mean the ones who contribute good edits and articles, should be rewarded somehow. Perhaps a Junior Curator status? Maybe landing a spot on the Brickfilms.com history page. I am not sure, but people like Josh Parris come to mind when I say they should be rewarded.

I would like, if possible, to perhaps appoint some people who would take at least one day out of a week to just add information to the wiki, this would make up for some of the lack of participation for a while.

The proposed idea for the massive collaboration of the resources would be to abolish all of the resources, put them all under the wikipedia. Make certain sections only editable by certain people (Mrgraff for the FAQ, Current minister for the Filming resources, Perhaps a person in charge of keeping useful forum posts in one spot). This makes everything in one area, eliminates useless repeated information, makes everything easily changeable. Perhaps change certain areas of the wiki so that the interface varies for the FAQ and the Filming resources, but keep it all under the same basic area.

This, again, is just an idea off of the top of my head and still needs work. It would need a lot of permission and a lot of time.

I hope I answered your question.

Josh Parris is a wiki curator. :) And I definitely agree that people that devote time like him deserve to be rewarded with curator status.

And yes, that answers my question nicely. :)

Sounds excellent, I think you’re probably the most passionate about this out of the nominees, will go to hell’s end to make sure your promises are met.

You have my vote.

You’re ideas here are excellent, and I like them all.

I’ll definitely be voting for you.

Between you and BertL, it’s hard to decide who has the better motives/ideas. I really like your initiative, but then again BertL may have more experience in the field, running IBDB among other things. I heard your claims about the sound ministry on The Brickfilmers Guide, and I’m sure you tried to get things done, and I can trust that you would if at all possible do some things if you were elected to this position.

I also like the idea of forming a single resource point instead of the multiple ones we have right now. Would this be a primary issue in your ministry?

This has been a common theme in all of my runnings. Even in my running for sound, which I intend to try again, I wanted to get things more streamlined. I think now we are ready for it. It has been told to me that some of the more respected views on this forum share some of my same opinions as far as a united resources goes.

This is a huge issue to me, in fact on of the greater ones, the main problem with proposals like this is that it relies on other people. It will require a lot of effort, which I am willing to put in, It just, to be honest, may or may not go through because of other people.

But yes, regardless of the outcome, this is a Primary issue, and until it happens it will remain to be in all of my elections.

BertL may have more experience with the wiki software, but wiki editing is all the same, and I have done plenty of that on the Official Wikipedia site and the Brickfilms.com wiki.

I am sure it would take a brief part of time for me to get fully use to the software, let us not forget that the sound curator has a completely new interface to learn- and I learned it just fine.

To me, comparatively speaking, BertL seems more focused on vandalism, reliability, and basic moderation. All of these are great points, so much so that I consider them as assumed basic responsibilities, not my main outline. BertL also tends to have more of a harsh answer for vandalism, where as I have done research and have sought out opinions on other methods. I tend to be more focused on further innovating this valuable resource, making it more complete, and making all resources a part of one great one.

You make it sound like I haven’t done research/considered other alternatives at all. :(
