Hello, I’m Nathan “Lord_Of_The_LEGO” Wells, and I’m running for Minister of Filming Resources.

What is my motivation for running for Minister of Filming Resources?
I love brickfilming as a hobby, and I love to see new people come onto Brickfilms.com eager to learn about the hobby and improve their skills. However, I think that Brickfilms.com is somewhat lacking in up-to-date, useful and accessible tutorials and materials. I joined Brickfilms.com in 2003 and became really active in 2005, but I haven’t seen the Resources page change much since I joined. There have been several extremely useful articles added since then, but I was unaware of them until I browsed the Resources page a few days ago. I feel that the Resources page is not exactly suffering from a lack of content, but rather from a lack of exposure and traffic.

What are my ideas to expand or improve the Ministry?
First and foremost, I want to get the word out that the Resources page does exist and has very useful content. Every new member I welcome in chat is totally unaware of the Resources page, and I want to change that. I plan to work closely with the Minister of Information so we can make people more aware of the Resources page. Whenever a new article or tutorial is added to the Resources page, I want to see an announcement on the main page. People need to know about these resources.

Secondly, I will work on reorganizing the Resources page to make it easier to navigate and update the graphics. I will also move all articles hosted on other websites onto Brickfilms.com’s server to insure availability. I will, of course, work with the original creators of these articles to implement that. If the original creator cannot be reached, I will create my own article based upon the information of the original article and cite the original article and author.

Thirdly, while I implement the above parts, I will constantly monitor the General Brickfilming, Animation and Effects, Hardware and Software, and Music, Sound Effects and Voice Acting forums and respond to new member’s questions about cameras, lighting, walk cycles, lightsabers and so on by directing them to the proper thread and locking the new thread to reduce clutter.

Forthly, I want to start writing my own articles. Many people have asked me about set building and prop designs, and I want to share my ideas and experiences. Also, I will inquire about other skilled members of the community to write articles about their areas of expertise.

Finally, in addition to working closely with the Minister of Information, I will work with the Minister of Truth and the Minster of Sound with matters related to their fields, including tutorials in the Wiki and possible tips on sound effects creation.

How much time would I be able to spend performing my duties as Minister of Filming Resources?
I am currently in college, and therefore of course will have to dedicate a substantial amount of my time to my studies. However, I frequent Brickfilms.com daily, and I have a genuine interest in seeing this site expand and develop even more, and I will dedicate at least and hour a day (usually probably more) performing my Minster duties. If I find I cannot sustain both my studying and my duties as Minister, I will at once work with Schlaeps and Trill on finding a suitable replacement.

That is really all I have to say. Please everyone, take the time read everyone’s threads, and get to know what everyone plans to do and stand for. Vote wisely on the 26th!

I have to agree with you on the idea of posting new resources on the main page, though I don’t think that it should be posted in the news, unless resources are added rarely, or it’s a really good resource. However, there maybe some small space that could be used. Think of something along the lines of the ‘Random Film’ thing.

Anyway, not bad ideas. I’m glad that someone decided not to copy my Web 2.0 banner. 😛

Yes, I probably won’t request an announcement on every single little new resource, but I think it would be good to constantly refer to the resources page on a regular basis. I would definitely want to see an announcement for a detailed tutorial on how to set up self-lit backdrops, for instance. A tutorial for how to make another version of a LEGO cradle/stand for a camera, while useful, probably wouldn’t make the main page.

I like this idea, but I am unsure how difficult it would be to fit it into the main page. The homepage is pretty full right now as it is, and one more item might push it from “full” to “cluttered.”

EDIT, also thanks to Munzapoppa Mini Movies and CMMAnimations.

Now how about interviews? I recall the current Minister mentioned something about those interview articles, wanting to add to them. What are your plans on interviewing brickfilmers?

    Sounds like a solid plan :) .

I thought you could hire deputies when a Minister becomes too busy.

Unfortunately I cant vote, I need to be registered until The 8th of January.
But anyway, I hope all turns out good, you’d be right man for this job.

Brickfilmer interviews is definitely something I want to expand. I enjoyed reading those early interviews, but I think it would be greatly helpful to the community if some newer and more active brickfilmers were interviewed. It won’t be the first objective I implement, but once I get the Resources page reorganized I will start conducting occasional interviews.

That’s correct, and I will probably do that. I was mostly referring to the minutely possible event that I was completely unable to perform any of my duties for a very extended amount of time (more than a month or so). If that happens, I will confer with Schlaeps and Trill and my vice-ministers on what to do about the matter. The actual likelihood of such a drastic measure taking place is very slim, and if I get busy for a week or so I’ll just inform my vice-ministers so they can take up the slack.
