First of all, thanks to those people who have supported me, including those people who did not manage to press the button because I already had enough support.

    • Suggested Skills

Am I a Senior Member? I do not believe the length of time you have been here alone makes you a senior member.

Over the 2 1/2 years I have been here another 4000 people have joined, of course many of these members have never visited Brickfilms.com after registering but there have been a handful who have matured since their arrival, members who have become amazing Brickfilmers and have shown talents in other areas of film making and other hobbies. I think these people are the ones with the potential to become a respected Senior Member, I hope you see me in that way.

Plus being around a long time means you know your way around :wink

As for good communication skills, nobody’s perfect. Even though I have a spell checker installed into my Firefox browser I still go back and see mistakes I made. However, I am not a person who will write rubbish with all the punctuation either missing or converted into smilies.

    • So, White, what are you going to do?

Drastic changes are not needed in the Brickfilms.com forums. If elected it will be my priority to have the the forums and chat going smoothly.

Now and again a thread which breaks the rules is made.
Threads advertising products, provoking hatred against a specific member and threads which will clearly turn into “flame wars”.
These threads should be locked as soon as possible but I am not blaming the mods. The mods are one method of control, another is simply education, both can be improved.

    The Mods
    In the Moderator Group:

    • RevMen
      Cometgreen
      jay
      mrgraff
      Schlaeps
      Stefan
      Trillspots

As far as I am aware, all these mods are in USA or Canada. Also, I believe spammers, trolls etc don’t just come from that part of the world. I propose a number of new mods to be selected from other parts of the world to create a 24 hour ‘surveillance’ system. If elected the new mods will not be chosen straight away and perhaps not all at once. Members wishing to be moderators will be required to send me an application at the appropriate time. This process may seem unfair to a number of people as your location will affect whether you get the job or not but that’s not to say you will get it just because of your location.

    The Education
Nearly every introduction thread has a reply with “FAQ, Wiki, Search” in it. It’s like a chant and its rather simple to just not see.
It needs to made clear to new members, as well as everyone else, what threads will be allowed and what threads will not.

“Bash Brianfast” is a good example of what should not be allowed. It also leads me on to penalties, similar to driving penalties. My idea is to give each member a point each time they start a thread against the rules. After x points the member is punished.
After a certain amount of time since the last point the member may PM the Minister of Discussion a letter of apology, if the apology is accepted the number of points will be reset to 0.
A record of apologies will be kept, if is found the member has been in the same situation before it is more likely the apology will not be accepted and the points will remain the same.

    Q&A

How much time would I be able to spend performing my duties as Minister of Discussion?
Brickfilms.com is one of the stops I make when I turn on my computer. Usually I expect (and I do) to spend quite a while browsing the forums, so its also usually the last stop.
I’m a regular member and the chance I’ll be gone for any long period of time is really small. I’ll try to spend the needed time on duties.

What are my ideas to expand or improve the Ministry?
See above. The first is to have moderators across the globe (possibility of some of the current moderators moving to other countries).
The second is in development and is to tackle behaviour issues. It involves penalising members who frequently do things such as making threads encouraging hatred against a specific member.

What unique character qualities would I be able to contribute to the Ministry?
I suppose the fact that I am rarely away from my computer is a character quality – or unique.
I spend time on things, just answering this one question has taken ages.

You have my support White, I like the point idea.

I would also like to put my name down for being a Mod, as I am british, and I’m online every night, for 1-2 hours.

    Good Luck :D

The point system sounds awfully bureaucratic to me. Are you sure you’d be able to keep up with the records?

The point system should not be a first resort. If a user displays enough ‘anti-social’ behaviour (ie. making rude remarks) a mod can add them to the list. A continuation of this behaviour adds points.

I don’t want anyone to feel they are under constant supervision. We all want to come to Brickfilms.com, I don’t want anyone to feel they are being watched but I also don’t want the odd person to spoil their fun.

Good communication skills more means, are you going to talke with the other staff members before you go making arbitrary decisions, are you going to take advice well, etc.

Can you listen, and talk to people? Not, can you spell? ;)

My experience with White says yes.

Sorry, I suppose I can’t really say I have good communication skills now, can I?

But of course I will listen to other staff members, I will listen to all Brickfilmers. I think that all ministers should have good communication skills and that all ministers should keep the MoI updated with the different parts of the site.

So, the points system is kind of like an infraction system, where a user SPAMs or curses alot, and they get points added to them. And then when they reach a certain number of points, a penalty would result, right? There might already be a phpBB mod for this, so it should be easy to implement.

I’d love to see this thread stay alive, just for the sake of competition. White has some great ideas, nail him with the hard questions, guys! Let him prove he’s up for the job.

(P.S. White, while you have most of the questions answered within the body of your platform is there a reason you chose not to answer the candidate questions specifically?)
