I just wondered if you could tell me what Brickfilms was like, way back when. Like what it was like, and who was there. 🙂

It was like a community of persons that did stop-motion animations. It’s hard to explain… :winkJune 27, 2003 at 10:59 pm #6629

Uhh, way back when? We all were new here at one point. The thing that has mainly changed over time, is that there are more people now. Also, films have evolved. Every time someone come out with something new, everyone has to match, or beat it. Its just like in real life. When Jay came out with The Gauntlet, many people felt very out done, so they worked harder to create better films. Then he made us realize how little we knew, when he did ROTE. He is just one main example, but if you look at the films that people ahve done, the first one they did, to their most recent, has improved greatly.June 27, 2003 at 11:22 pm #6631
Wow- has it been two and a half years already? 😛
It was very much like it is now- only a LOT more confused.
The few people who knew anything about compression weren’t around to help the rest of us who didn’t.
There was no DIVX and I had to find out about Real Producer from my fifteen year old nephew who had to help me to find the link hidden from mortals on the Real website. Not to mention that most of us still hadn’t faced the truth about Studios.
It was frustrating.
Fortunately there were some glimmers of light- Thomas Foote’s Bricks in Motion provided valuable info and links to such useful (and free!) software as Axagon and Videomach, without which some of us would still be lost. 😀
It was exciting too- we shared the feeling that we were on the cutting edge of something new. For me it was fulfilling a childhood dream of making my own cartoons. I still get those feelings- it’s what keeps me going.
I can only imagine what it’s like for new people who come in to find an organized forum with a complete FAQ and hundreds of movies to watch and learn from.
It’s not over yet- I predict someday others will ask you what it was like in the ‘old days’.June 28, 2003 at 1:23 am #6639
I have been here for almost a year….
I found this site on the side of a truck…….
yes …..a truck…….
the site like DFB said….
has only changed as much as any movie-type-forum would.
lots of the ppl who were here before……..
(will not name them)
have just stopped showin up……………
but most still remain….
others are just lurking now………
the only thing that has really changed
….is the quality of the movies and films….
(sorry ’bout the elipses……it’s how I write it)June 28, 2003 at 1:35 am #6640

I don’t remember how I found this site, but what first got me interested in lego animation was on newgrounds. I bought my intel cs110 about, 2 years ago, and it remained in the box for another year, till I found brickfilms. My desire to animate has somewhat dimmed over time, but hey, I’m still here. I can never really find an idea that makes me “want” to animate (hmm…perhaps Sunday I will finish something I started 3 months ago, well, it was finished, but I never liked it, so never released it publically). Basically, lack of motivation. I have seen many people come, few of them go. Some I’m sure just plain forgot about the site. I plan on being here for quite a while longer, or atleast till I move out of my parents house and cannot afford internet access.
Does anyone else remember the “Ocean’s Eleven Trolls?”June 28, 2003 at 3:14 am #6656June 28, 2003 at 3:20 am #6658
You remember the Allison/Brittney trolls?
yes they were there. ask Shootin Bricks, He cleaned them up real good. (He had god on his side 😉 ) If you don’t believe me. check some of his earliest work.
But really I set up a simple time calender, Some of you might not agree with it, but it helps me remember things.
